This introductory sign language course, in partnership with Canadian Hearing Services, is designed for students with little or no previous knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL). Students will learn basic everyday communication incorporating deaf culture and deaf community content. Emphasis will be on the development of question-and-answer skills. Grammar will be introduced in context only.
A ‘no voice’ teaching method will be used to reinforce the learning experience. Students will learn through virtual classroom instruction, role-play, video-text and a workbook (included in course fees). The Workbook (non-refundable) will be shipped prior to course start.
Students will require access to a computer or laptop (with camera) that can run Zoom. Students will be required to be on camera to participate in course activities.
