This course encourages spontaneity and creativity through the exploration of techniques that emphasize fluid brushwork, vibrant colour blending, and the beauty of imperfection.
Instruction will address: Expressive brushstrokes: experimenting with different brush techniques to achieve lively, dynamic marks. Color mixing: understanding how to mix colours intuitively to capture light and atmosphere. Composition and layout: exploring how to compose paintings with a relaxed approach, prioritizing feeling over precision. Finding your voice: encouraging personal expression and developing a unique style through experimentation and exploration.
Instruction will include two demonstrations per day, taking the process from a photo through a quick sketch and onto a completed painting. Subject matter will focus on landscapes, florals, or abstract themes, all while embracing the freedom that comes with a loose style. Expect to leave feeling inspired and more confident. This course is not suitable for beginners.
An intermediate to advanced level of skill is required.
Instructor: Gord Jones
Gord Jones is inspired by his forested, rugged, lake-dotted surroundings. He loves how watercolour allows him to transfer the light and shadow from his photographs to his paintings. With a fluidity of colours, Gord combines impressionistic strokes and semi-abstract techniques to elicit memories of place and time in his transparent watercolours. He is an elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour, The Society of Canadian Artists and The International Watercolour Society.
